This single family home in the Glen Park neighborhood of San Francisco was typically modest – one floor of living over a garage level. At 900 square feet, the 2 bedroom, single bath home was cramped for a growing family. A compact, 500 square foot, 2 story, addition creates a new master suite and family room below.
Flooded with natural light and composed views to the gardens, the addition reconnects the home to the newly terraced backyard. The kitchen and adjacent spaces were reconfigured to open up the entire house visually and functionally.
Simple and clean materials in the kitchen and addition were balanced with splashes of Heath Ceramic tiles, sky blue venetian plaster and a sculptural walnut and steel stair.
